Buying A New Car During The Coronavirus Pandemic

By Zunsport - 3rd May, 2024

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we do many things, and buying a new car is no different. If you're interested in buying a new car, is it still safe for you to do so? Here are some key things you need to consider.

Dealership Hygiene Standards

During full lockdown dealerships will generally be closed; however, in tiered systems, they remain mostly open.

Car dealerships are under Government regulation (as many businesses now are) regarding coronavirus-specific safety measures. This means things like one-way systems through the premises, screens between customers and salespeople at their desks, regular hand washing and sensitisation options, and the use of face masks. However, it also means visiting a dealership is arguably an even safer experience than it was before the outbreak, though you must make sure the dealership is abiding by cleanliness guidelines.

The Increase In Remote Buying

More and more people have been buying cars online for the last few years, but the pandemic has seen this surge. Many dealers will now offer video walk-around services of the car, where you schedule an appointment and a salesperson takes you on a virtual tour of the car in question using a video app. If you choose to buy a car, many dealerships are now offering solo test drives and if you're coming to collect your vehicle in person it will be fully sanitised and ready for you to take home.

Other dealerships are now offering a contactless delivery service. This means wherever you are, the dealer will arrange to have your vehicle transported to you. The keys and documents will be inside, the vehicle will be sanitised, and the dealer will generally take your details to inform the DVLA of your ownership online - you don't even need to shake hands.

Is It Safe To Buy A Car?

The simple answer is that it's as safe as it's going to get - dealerships are putting in place every option possible to keep buyers safe during the purchase process. Whether you want to visit the dealership in person and see the car before you buy it, or you're happy to buy the car online and have it transported to your door, the pandemic shouldn't put you off a new vehicle.

Dealerships, just like the team at Zunsport grilles, are determined to keep you as safe and satisfied as possible, with the minimum of disruption to service. And with the psychological toll of the pandemic, there's never been a better time to treat yourself.
