Zunsport’s Favourite Ford Fiesta Modifications!
By Zunsport - 3rd May, 2024
There’s no doubt about it – the Ford Fiesta is an absolute classic. For more than 30 years, Ford’s little hatchback has reigned supreme, not just for its fantastic fuel economy and unbeatable reliability, but for its speed, its sporty look and for how fun it is to drive.
While the latest Fiesta models are some of the most sophisticated yet, there are still a few modifications that will have a significant impact on how it feels to drive your Fiesta.
At Zunsport, we have hands-on experience with a few of these Fiesta mods, which is why we’ve listed our top five Ford Fiesta modifications to try in 2019…
1. Up Your Cold Air Intake
Want to turbocharge your Ford Fiesta? One of the quickest and most effective ways to do this is by upping your car’s cold air intake. By increasing the amount of air in the Fiesta's turbocharger, you’ll enjoy a far more responsive engine, having a big impact on acceleration.
2. Add An Intercooler
If you live in a hot climate or are experiencing a hotter than usual summer, this next mod is an absolute must for Ford Fiestas.
When you compress air, it gets hotter. If the air becomes too hot, it can cause detonation in your Ford Fiesta’s engine. Too much hot air can cause power loss, so to help mitigate this, you’ll want to invest in an intercooler.
While the intercooler itself won’t make your car go faster, it will help it to run more aggressive ignition timing without the risk of detonation.
3. Lower Your Springs
While the Ford Fiesta’s suspension is pretty impressive, its dampening isn’t all that great. If you spend a lot of time in your Fiesta, regularly drive at high speeds or over uneven terrain, no doubt you’ll have noticed just how bumpy the ride can feel.
If you’re on a budget, you can pick up a set of springs which will help to improve your Fiesta’s stance, but it won’t tackle the dampening issue.
For those serious about their Fiesta mods, we recommend investing in a proper set of coil overs to provide a higher spring rate and lower body pitch and roll, without affecting the ride quality.
4. A New Set Of Wheels
Want to make your Ford Fiesta not only feel incredible to drive, but look the part, too?
One of the simplest ways to give your ride an update is by investing in a new set of wheels. There are tonnes of styles to choose from, whether you’re looking for rally-car style Turbomacs, or a Fiesta-specific set of Fifteen52s, there is a tyre for every type of Ford Fiesta enthusiast out there.
5. A Custom-Made Grille
While upping your cold air intake will have a big impact on how fast your Ford Fiesta can go, another more cost-effective mod is to upgrade your car’s grille.
The grille is essential for getting air into the engine to keep it running smoothly and ensuring it doesn’t overheat at high speeds. Most modern cars are fitted with factory-made plastic grilles which can sometimes let road debris through into the engine – a costly repair you’ll want to avoid.
One of our favourite Ford Fiesta mods is to upgrade your grille to a custom-made stainless-steel option. Not only will it give your Ford a serious design makeover, but you’ll also be protecting the life of your engine by ensuring road muck is kept safely away from your car’s important components.
