During the summer months, UK roads are packed with tiny bugs and insects, many of which unfortunately end up on our windscreens and even stuck in car grilles. It's important to clean up bug splatter on car grilles because this, alongside other debris, can impact your car's performance significantly.
If you're not sure how to remove bug splat, don't worry. Follow these three simple steps to clean your car and grille up in no time.
Choose An Appropriate Bug Remover
The first thing you'll need to do select an appropriate bug remover for your car. Check the label of your bug remover to make sure you know whether it needs to be diluted or not, and then make up the correct solution of bug remover.
One of the most difficult things is knowing how to remove baked on bugs from car parts. After some time in the sun, bugs become dry and hardened and can be much trickier to wash off than fresh bugs.
Ideally, you should clean bugs off your car as soon as bug splatter appears, before they harden. But this isn't always possible. When areas of your car grille are already stained with bugs, you should first soak the bug splat areas with bug remover.
Next, use a microfiber cloth or a bug sponge to wipe down the soaked areas and wipe all the bug splatter off your car and grille. You might need to wipe firmly, but if bugs aren't coming off, don't scrub - just apply more bug remover and let it sit for a little longer.
Next, give your whole car a quick wash; hosing it down is a great way to wash all the bug remover from your car and any bug splat residues that are caught on the car.
Wax Your Car
Finally, apply car wax to your vehicle, including the outside of the grille. This will make it easier to clean bug splatter in future, because the wax creates a barrier between the bugs and your car; it's much easier to simply clean off the wax coating with bug splatter than to get baked on bugs off the car.
Spray or wipe a car wax solution all over your car, including the grille exterior, and then wipe it evenly across the car surface. Don't apply car wax to the windshield and mirrors, though a water repellent solution can be used for these areas instead.
